The Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine at Tulane University’s School of Medicine is the first dedicated teaching kitchen to be implemented at a medical school. The program was founded in 2012 and taught medical student and community cooking classes at kitchens around the city. By working in locations like churches and community centers, GCCM strengthened its connection to the New Orleans community. In 2014, GCCM found a permanent home for the teaching kitchen in our current location at the ReFresh Project. Read more about the ReFresh Project here…
GCCM provides hands-on training for medical students and residents at Tulane through culinary medicine classes including electives and interdisciplinary seminars. Dietetic Interns at Tulane University’s School of Public Health also complete two-week long rotations at GCCM as well as attend a series of classes throughout their internship year. Our goal is to teach future health professionals how to cook and eat healthy for themselves, so they can also counsel their patients to do the same. Read more about student opportunities here…
GCCM also teaches culinary medicine through continuing medical education classes for licensed medical professionals including physicians, physicians assistants, nurses, nurse practitioners, dietitians, and pharmacists. Read more about CME opportunities here…
Community Classes at GCCM are FREE to the public and allow anyone in the local community to learn about nutrition and culinary medicine through our innovative hands-on cooking classes. This video shows what it’s like to take a community class with us!
